About me
Birgitte Rasine is an award-winning author, essayist, journalist, and speaker who has worked with Fortune 100 and 500 companies, NGOs, non profits, educational institutions, and government bodies for over two decades. Her introduction to the world of cacao and chocolate took place in 2014, when she began research for her novel "The Jaguar and the Cacao Tree," a mythic fantasy about the history of cacao that VIPs in the chocolate business have called "mesmerizing" and "a strong contender for the best title in the last 5 years." Since the book’s publication, she has led scores of live workshops, talks, presentations, and chocolate tastings for companies and private gatherings. She has given talks right here at the NW Chocolate Festival, the FCIA, the International Chocolate Salon (yearly appearances), Books Inc, Book Passage, FCIA, public libraries, and elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2018, the International Chocolate Salon invited Birgitte to serve as a chocolate judge for their awards. She writes The Cacao Muse, a Substack newsletter where she posts reviews of artisanal and craft chocolates, illustrated by her whimsical photography. A former journalist for the Hollywood film industry, Birgitte holds a BA in Film Aesthetics from Stanford University, studied cinematography at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, and completed a professional Masters degree in international relations in Spanish at the Instituto Universitario Ortega y Gasset in Madrid, Spain. She lives in Northern California with her family.
